Microbial Pathogens
Microbial pathogen screening is exceptionally imperative for any product intended for human consumption. Serious health-related concerns can arise from elevated microbial pathogen exposure and is of the utmost concern within the immunocompromised community. Greenhouses with high humidity, coupled with warm climate conditions is the ideal environment for bacterial and fungal germination. However, pathogens most commonly develop from improper preparation and poor storage of cannabis products.
Research & Development screening is highly encouraged throughout product stages to achieve desired results and avoid unwanted liability during the supply chain.
What are Microbials?
Microbials are extremely diverse microorganisms that are environmentally abundant and serve several purposes. Excelbis Labs specifically screens microbial pathogens (bacterium and fungi) that has the potential to cause diseases in humans. This includes mycotoxin-producing strains of Aspergillus or mold.
How We Test for Microbials
Homogenize product using exclusive techniques that exceed state requirements. Transition sample(s) to our clean room to perform Polymerase-Chain Reaction (PCR) test. Utilizing a PathogenDx PCR kit enables us to combine fungal and bacterial screening simultaneously. This hybridization process allows for results to be acquired in as little as 12 hours, which affords faster turnaround times. On the Certificate of Analysis, microbials are recorded as Detect or Non-Detect.
